The President of Personal Data Protection Service, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili represents the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia at the 31st European Conference of Data Protection Authorities
2023-05-10 19:06:31It is noteworthy that upon the invitation of the Conference organizing committee, the President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, will moderate one of the panels, which will touch upon the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on the personal data protection. In the scope of the panel, the presentation will be given by: Mr. Marko Bošnjak - Judge and Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights; Prof. Dr. Hielke Hijmans - President of the Litigation Chamber and Member Executive Board of the Belgian Data Protection Authority; Member of the Committee of Experts on International Migration, Refugee and Criminal Law (Meijers Committee), Professor at the Free University of Brussels and the University of Luxembourg; Dr. Gergely Barabás – Legal Counsel and Head of the Legal Service Unit of the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, former administrative law judge and data protection expert.
Furthermore, it should be emphasized that this year a new composition of the steering group of the European Conference of Data Protection Authorities was established, which, per the Rules and Procedures of the Conference, consists of four ordinary members and the representatives of the supervisory authorities hosting the Conference in the current, following, and 2025 years, as well as the host authority of the current year's "European Case Handling Workshop" (ECHW). In accordance with the Rules and Procedures of the Conference, taking into account the results of the elections announced for the selection of ordinary members of the steering group, the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia was selected for the mentioned position, together with the data protection supervisory authorities of Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and Cyprus. Moreover, upon the consensus of the members of the newly established steering group, the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia will stand as a coordinator of the group. It should be underlined that until 2023 the steering group was coordinated by the ICO – the UK’s data protection authority of UK. At the first working meeting of the steering group, held on the first day of the Conference, Ana Tokhadze represented the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia and discussed its future activities.
