President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, Gave a Speech at the Annual Privacy Symposium
2023-04-18 15:11:58One of the Panels on the first day of the Conference was devoted to the discussion about “Fostering Cooperation among and with Non-EDPB European Supervisory Authorities”. The President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, in her speech, drew attention to the Service's mandate, the national legislation on personal data protection and the draft law; the international relations, as well as the international networks and platforms in which the Service actively participates. Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili reviewed the existing formats of cooperation with foreign counterpart data protection supervisory authorities and international organizations in the field of personal data protection; She also emphasized the international events organized by the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia and the importance of the Service’s bilingual, periodic scientific publication - "Journal of Personal Data Protection Law," having the international Editorial Board. "One of the strategic priorities of the Personal Data Protection Service is to deepen international cooperation with the counterpart supervisory authorities. Data protection authorities must handle the modern challenges of privacy and personal data protection together. In order to create better guarantees of data protection, on behalf of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, we once again confirm our readiness to cooperate with our counterpart supervisory authorities,"- Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili noted in her speech at the Panel session.
The thematic Panel of the Conference was moderated by Ms. Catherine Lennman – Delegate for International Affairs and Francophonie, Swiss Office of the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). A discussion followed the panel.
The Privacy Symposium aims to promote international dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge sharing on data protection, compliance and innovative technologies. Annually, the Conference is participated by data protection practitioners to discuss the latest developments and contemporary tendencies in the field. In addition, the Conference intends to build an international community of professionals to support the implementation of effective data protection.The Privacy Symposium 2023 is participated by Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar - President of the Republic of Slovenia; Didier Reynders - European Commissioner for Justice; Dr. Andrea Jelinek - President of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and President of the Austrian Data Protection Authority; Carlo Nordio - Minister of Justice of the Italian Republic; Dr. Wojciech Wiewiórowski - European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), as well as, representatives of the data protection authorities, academic circle and experts of the field.
