The Meeting of the State Inspector, Londa Toloraia with the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Lyudmyla Denisova
2021-09-14 18:09:06The State Inspector, Londa Toloraia hosted the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Lyudmyla Denisova and the representatives of the Delegation of Ukraine.
The meeting aimed to share with the Ukrainian counterpart experience of the State Inspector’s Service.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy State Inspectors, the heads of the respective structural units of the Service and the representatives of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in the field of personal data protection.
The meeting covered issues such as deepening cooperation between the two authorities, Georgia’s experience and best practices in the field of personal data protection, signature of the Council of Europe 108+ Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Automated Processing of Personal Data from the perspective of implementation of the EU Association Agreement and implementation of joint initiatives in the field of human rights.
Delegation of Ukraine was particularly interested in the institutional development of the State Inspector’s Service, steps taken for the refinement of the legislative framework, experience of public-private relations and the “Personal Data Protection Ambassadors” project.
At the meeting, Londa Toloraia emphasized common challenges of Ukraine and Georgia and noted that having close cooperation with the countries and counterparts facing similar challenges is essentially important for the State Inspector’s Service: “we, both countries are striving towards the European Union and our agencies have their share of responsibility on the way to Europe. We are doing our best to bring our legislation and practice in line with the European standards and we will spare no efforts to ensure that the Council of Europe Convention 108+ be signed soon” – stated Londa Toloraia.
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Lyudmyla Denisova thanked the State Inspector for close cooperation. “Georgia is our strategic partner and we were very interested in your experience in the field of personal data protection. There is a separate state agency responsible for these issues and we wanted to know how this agency works” – stated Lyudmyla Denisova.
To get detailed information in the area of personal data protection, the thematic meetings with representatives of the respective structural units of the State Inspector’s Service will be held throughout the day.
A memorandum was signed between the State Inspector’s Service and the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in 2020. The parties agreed to continue joint efforts to enhance cooperation in the field of human rights, strengthen support at the international level and share successful practices.
