A Meeting of the State Inspector with Media Representatives Was Held with the Support of the Council of Europe
2019-10-18 11:43:54The State Inspector Londa Toloraia, the Deputy State Inspector, Giorgi Gamezardashvili, and Senior Project Officer of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Eter Kamarauli opened the meeting.
Within the frames of the meeting, Londa Toloraia discussed all the three areas of the State Inspector’s activities: the control of the legitimacy of personal data processing, oversight of covert investigative activities and investigation of certain offences committed by representatives of law enforcement authorities, officials or persons equal to official.
The State Inspector emphasized the importance of personal data protection and stressed the need to raise public awareness on personal data protection-related issues. Londa Toloraia introduced to the media the activities of the State Inspector’s Service and future plans, including a new draft law on “Personal Data Protection”.
During the meeting, the importance of an impartial and efficient investigative mechanism to investigate the offences committed by representatives of law enforcement authorities and officials was underlined. It was noted that the process of recruiting qualified staff of the Investigation Department is currently carried out through competition, to be fully prepared for the entry into force of the new function on 1 November 2019.
Londa Toloraia answered the questions raised by the media representatives. The State Inspector underlined her readiness to cooperate with the media to regularly provide the public with updated information regarding the activities of the Service.
