Meeting Regarding the Video Surveillance in Kindergartens
2015-03-20 12:00:07On March 18, 2015 Personal Data Protection Inspector, Mrs. Tamar Kaldani and Deputy Head, Mr. Nika Bregvadze met with the Head of the Tbilisi City Council, Mr. Giorgi Alibegashvili. The meeting was initiated by the Chairperson of Commission for Education and Culture, Mrs. Tamar Taliashvili. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Legal Department of Tbilisi City Hall, Mrs. Guranda Rumanadze and the Deputy Head of the Kindergartens Management Agency.
The major issue discussed during the meeting was the introduction of video surveillance system in kindergartens and its compliance with the principles of personal data protection. The Chairperson of Commission for Education and Culture, Mrs. Tamar Taliashvili said that the kindergarten video surveillance system should be improved as this is vital for the protection of rights of our pupils, their parents and teachers as well.
The Personal Data Protection Inspector, Mrs. Tamar Kaldani stated that the purpose of the video surveillance shall be well explained and understood by the management of the kindergartens. There shall be clearly established rule regulating access to the recordings as it concerns children and their parents.
The Inspector submitted the number of recommendations elaborated by the Office to the representatives of the meeting, one of the recommendations concerns video surveillance. The inspector also expressed readiness to conduct training sessions on personal data protection related issues for the representatives of kindergartens.
At the end of the meeting, a new initiative has been launched on regulating use of personal data processed during the kindergarten registration process.
